Thousands Across France Protest Macron’s Choice of Prime Minister

PARIS (AP) — Thousands of demonstrators marched across France on Wednesday to protest President Emmanuel Macron’s choice of Elisabeth Borne as prime minister.

Borne is a former labor minister who has been criticized for her handling of pension reforms.

The protesters chanted slogans such as “Borne out!” and “Macron, resign!” They also held signs that read “No to Borne” and “Macron is destroying France.”

The demonstrations were largely peaceful, but there were some reports of violence.

In Paris, protesters clashed with police and set fire to a car. In the southern city of Marseille, protesters threw stones at police and set fire to garbage cans.

Macron has defended his choice of Borne, saying that she is a “competent and experienced” politician.

However, the protests show that there is significant opposition to Borne’s appointment. It remains to be seen whether Macron will be able to overcome this opposition and unite the country behind his new prime minister.
